Ripples of Hope for the Philippines

Dear Friends,

"Among Ed's" winning as Governor of Pampanga was providential. We all know how he catapulted to power without financial backing or political machinery and against 2 political giants of Pampanga. We all know that he ran in response to a gaping need for moral resurgence and in response to a crisis in leadership! Among Ed's election has served as a ripple of hope today to become the tidal wave of change in the future.

We were all inspired by Among Ed's election. However, it was not until after we met with him this December, did we realize that his winning was just the beginning of an uphill battle to fight graft and corruption. Graft and corruption is like a cancerous lesion that has infiltrated the entire political system in the Philippines. It is almost impossible to eradicate especially when it is perpetuated by the leadership and enabled by the people themselves. Thus he is facing insurmountable odds. The battle to overturn him has just begun. Forces are working to oust him, recall him, derail his administration or even assassinate him!

Every eye of every disillusioned Filipino is focused on how Among Ed can realize his dream of good governance and improve the plight of Filipinos. It is therefore critical that we, Filipinos living abroad, help him succeed! His success in Pampanga will be translated in every province in the Philippines. His success will serve as a catalyst for change! But, in my personal assessment, it will take no less than a generation to appreciate significant changes in the political scenery in our country. For it is not until we mobilize the younger generation of leaders who are honest, idealistic, dedicated and highly principled, to replace those who are already infected by the cancer of graft and corruption, can we effect significant changes in our country.

So we are counting on you to help Among Ed succeed! By contributing towards the Among Ed fund, we will be helping his administrative tenure to succeed; then we know that we have made a difference!

To make a contribution, please make your check payable to "MCP or Michigan Circulo Pampangueno - Among Ed Fund" and mail to: Dr. Jose Evangelista, 4583 Lahser Rd., Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. MCP is a 501 C3 organization based in Michigan with a Tax ID # 38-2946186.

Among Ed has prioritized his goals to include improvement in HEALTH, EDUCATION, AGRICULTURE & AQUA-CULTURE, LIVELIHOOD AND HOUSING. Our group will concentrate on HEALTH and that is the upgrading of the nine (9) district hospitals and one (1) provincial hospital in the province of Pampanga thru the procurement of basic hospital equipment, hospital beds, wheelchairs, suction machines, OR equipment, disposable items such as syringes, dressings, OR supplies and medicines as well as the face lift needed for those hospitals. We have already collected enough funds to initiate the shipment of the first two (2) 40 foot containers to Pampanga which will take place first week in March 2008. We are also mobilizing Michiganian volunteers to help sort and pack the shipment. Your financial support will be critical in our goal of upgrading all 10 hospitals.

We encourage all Filipinos, all Fil-Ams, all Capampangans and all other organizations to join us in this crusade. Together we will make a difference. Thank you and we are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jose L. Evangelista M.D., F.A.C.C.
