Honor Killings in Texas?
Texas Jam had a piece titled: Yet another piece of human debris... wherein he posted a horrific crime north of his neighborhood in Texas.
The suspect identified as Yaser Abdel Said described and to quote TJ as:
"Here is the lowdown on this worthless Sack of Sh#$."
TJ was right on target in describing the suspect, I am appalled as well and share his contempt at this gruesome senseless killing of Sarah Yaser Said, 17 and her sister Amina Yaser Said, 18 shot and left to die inside a Jet Taxi vehicle driven by the suspect.
It was so horrific that one of the victims was able to call 911 barely able to utter the words "I am dying" unable to give her location gasping for her last breath. It was unfortunate that despite the authorities effort were unable to pinpoint their location in time to rescue them.
Officers of the Lewisville were dispatched to O'Connor Road and Riverside Drive where the call originated but were unable to find the victims. Police also sent officers to the victims’ home in a frantic attempt to get information on the whereabouts of the victims.
Is this a case of honor killing? This is more like horror killings of people with a perverted sense of honor that is barbaric and senseless and has no place in a civilized society. This kind of crime happens in fundamental Muslim controlled countries and in Europe where there is a big concentration of Muslim immigrants, are they bringing this type of crime to American shores?
The brother of the victim issued a statement that this has nothing to do with religion to which I agree because religion does not condone killing for the sake of honor and only those who perverts its interpretation are the ones committing such dastardly act. He has appealed to his father to surrender now the subject of a manhunt for a capital warrant of arrest.
While we cannot categorically say that this was indeed an honor killing prior events and statement from one of the victim’s friend leads us to this suspicion that the killing was all in the name of "honor", to quote Dallas news report:
"We're well aware of the family dynamics," he said. "Everyone wants to know the motive. The only person that can really tell us is him."
Officer Tull said there had been no progress Thursday in locating Mr. Said but noted that federal authorities are participating in the manhunt.
"We've got a large net cast," he said.
Officer Tull said there's a possibility that the Egyptian-born man may have left the country.
"He's not a stranger to travel," he said.
Zohair Zaidi, a close friend of Sarah's, said Sarah told him their father had threatened harm to Amina recently when he discovered she had a boyfriend.
"Her dad has always been oppressive with her and her sister," said Mr. Zaidi, 18.
"She said that one day when she came home – the day he found out about Amina's boyfriend – he told Sarah, 'I'm going to put a bullet through Amina's head, and you better get used to her because she's not going to be around much longer.' "
One of the sisters called 911 from a cellphone around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. She said she was dying, according to an Irving police report. Police traced the call to O'Connor Road and Riverside Drive, where police initially did not find the caller.
An hour later, police received another call about two unconscious females inside a taxi at a service entrance of the Omni Mandalay Hotel. Police located the vehicle and found the sisters.
"The victims' mother provided information that pointed to the victims' father as the suspect," the Irving police report said.
Anyone with information should call Irving police at 972-721-2518.
5 Speak Out:
An honour killing was committed recently on a young Pakistani woman in Brussels by her own brother. The brother's been on the run since. The father apparently ordered the killing.
The young girl, 20, refused to enter into the arranged marriage and left the house. She was tracked and shot pointblank. She was with her younger sister at the time who was wounded too.
Despicable crime. Honour? What honour?
Yes, hillblogger despicable indeed.....what honor?
I agree with TJ if it was about protecting family honour then the victims would have been better off if the perpetrator shoots himself instead.... this is just so repugnant.
To add yet another example to this honor killing roster...A man is suspected of murdering his daughter in an alleged honor killing in Mississauga, Ontario, however, there is much debate over whether the crime was committed under religious motivations or a horrific case of domestic violence.
Hi BB,
I believe western nations has not learned how to deal with this perverted protection of family honor, thus they would rather treat it as domestic violence.
The influx of Muslim migrants and those displaced refugees from war torn Muslim countries came along with some of them these perverted notion on honor that they can get away with in their former countries.
There is really a need for the western nation to come up with a legislation addresing this problem because this is not a simple domestic violence issue but far more than that and more complicated than what it appears to be.
Thanks for the link, Jaywalker. Another nasty angle to this would be that the twerp would have gotten away with this in his homeland. And I still say that if the father felt so embarassed, then he should have ended just his own life.
