GMA's Clemency of Ninoy Aquinos' Murderers an Insult & Rejection of his Martyrdom

By: Fidel Umaga

Closure on Ninoy's martyrdom?

Clemency or pardon for those convicted for his death?

This is to disparage the memory of Ninoy and all those he stood for as well as an insult to those who admire him.

Ninoy was a martyr not only because of the things he died for but also for the things he lived for. He lived and died for a Philippines that is free, where Filipinos may live in justice and peace as human beings, in a democratic atmosphere, where the law is dispensed equally to all, unmindful of the economic, social, religious and political circumstances of the person involved.

He wanted us to believe as he had believed and lived that there is more to life than eating 3 square meals a day and having a roof over one's head when night comes. He wanted us to believe that it is our God given right to live in freedom, as human beings. He wanted us to believe that we must be vigilant in protecting these God given rights and that we must be willing to defend them with our whole heart and soul. And should it become necessary for us to put our own life and limb in harms way in defense of those rights, we must have the courage to meet the challenge because in the end, our country, our people and every one of us would be measured not so much by what we have but what we do with what we have.

And where are we now 26 years after Ninoy's assassination at the NAIA tarmac on August 21, 1983? Are we different now from what we were then?

No. These same tyranny reigns albeit from different tyrants.

Many of us still act like SLAVES despite the so called freedoms that we have. Poverty still haunts the country. Ignorance still abounds around us. We are still separated from our neighbors. Most of us still worshipped many because of the circumstances they were born from and not because of those they have created for themselves and others.

In a sense, as we have not yet realized the dream of Ninoy for all of us, he dies everyday. Yes, I believe there should not YET be a closure of Ninoy's martyrdom. No clemency yet for those who caused the death of Ninoy.

In the ultimate analysis, when every thing has been said and done, we, whom he died for and are still alive today but failed and continuously fail to learn from his death, are complicit in that tragedy. To deny that is to deny the greatness of Ninoy's death.

Note:

This is lifted from the comment section of the August 21, 2007 post on Ninoy Aquino's Martyrdom that still rings true to this day.

The Land of the Free Convicts in Gloria Arroyo’s Garcified Regime

The Philippines is definitely the land of the free…… freeing convicted criminals in a show of shows to portray her scandal ridden regime’s compassionate stance. Compassion reserved for convicted and well connected criminals that will never be convicted truly makes the Philippines a haven for criminals, but one thing is clear Gloria Arroyo is in charge and no one can do anything about it.

Angela wrote an article on Ninoy’s Killers quoting Kris Aquino’s woes at Inq7:

I wanted to keep my silence but I was really bothered by the narrative of the soldiers. It’s just so sad that they can rewrite history.
Spiteful convict loverI can only imagine how Kris Aquino feels, deeply hurt at re-opening the emotional wounds that will never heal overtime when an insensitive head of state acts like a brat so full of spite. I don’t know the Aquinos on a personal level and yet I cannot help but feel the abhorrent callous disregard and disrespect of this president with questionable mandate in trampling the very symbol of the peoples quest for democracy in ousting the Marcos dictatorship.

What is deeply troubling in this latest bout of insensitive spitefulness from a Mafiosi inspired government is how morons in their callous disregard tries in vain to portray a humane and compassionate government that it is not and never will. The quote below from the Inquirer editorial seems to offer a rationalization on the release of the convicted killer who they claimed has been reformed and thus deserve to be released back to society:

But Ms Arroyo’s political tactics aside, what can the nation gain from seeing the soldier-convicts continue in jail? If the object was to punish them, no one will contest that they have suffered enough — and according to the law’s own standards. If the object was to rehabilitate them, the evidence of reformed lives is clear. But if the object was to force them, through incarceration, to reveal the truth behind the assassination, the fact that they have continued to say the same thing over and over again, the fact that they continue to tell the same unsatisfying story, should tell us that after a quarter-century we have nothing else, nothing more, to learn from them.

Time to let them go. After justice, mercy.
Justice? Who the hell are these editorial cartoons errr writers kidding? Reformed? Mercy? I say shut your trap and smell the coffee! No wonder lying is an art form mastered by politicians, criminals and journalist alike in a nation where perjury is treated like a joke and even reward convicted remorseless killers free jail pass for sticking to the lies that they heaped on the public for over 2 ½ decades. On the contrary if the editorial writer believes there is nothing to gain or learn from these lying convicted murderers they are wrong. What we have learned from these and have always known is that it pays to lie and stick to it in a nation where there is no clear distinction between truth and lies.

Any right thinking Filipino who feels sympathetic to these convicted murderers should seriously seek professional help. So, if indeed these convicts were reformed why in the name of land of cheats do we hear former sergeant Claro Lat lamenting and angry at his wife for not visiting him in prison? Dream on fool and because he lives his life in lies he thinks his family can just bring him to New Jersey to live with them. As if such stupidity never ceases the son of the convicted murderer or relative whoever he is I really don’t give a squat that I saw on TV Patrol saying the statements of Kris Aquino deeply hurt their feelings. Can you believe the gall and stupidity of this kid and these murderers? Hello, will someone please smack this guy at the back of his head and remind him that Kris Aquino has every right to say what she wants to say considering she lost her father in a very violent manner while his murderers are alive still lying through their teeth free like a bird once again.

Re-opening the case is not conditioned on the Aquinos wishes although it was doubtful that the government judiciary and investigative agencies are not doing so out of respect for Cory Aquino's wishes but are afraid of what they will uncover. Afraid to confront very powerful untouchable people they dare not displease in a nation where might is right. I say re-open the case but then again in an administration where criminals get away with murder or conspiracy to kidnap as in the taped conversation of Gloria and Garci can we really get the facts straight. In the land where convicted murderers, criminals of the election fraud, fertilizer scams, WB Collusion and all sorts of aberrant sorry excuse of human beings are free to roam the streets and even run for public office will there be closure for the victims and their families.

Yeah talk to the Filipino people about humanity and compassion when we cease to learn of horrific state sanctioned violence committed against innocent civilians and non-combatants. The latest of which is that of Rebelyn Pitao kidnapped, tortured, sexually violated, and murdered discarded in the most inhumane fashion recovered floating lifeless in the river because she happens to be the daughter of a communist NPA (New Peoples Army) commander.

In a nation where people are confident of its laws and institutions, pardon and mercy comes naturally without shame and remorse. But in a nation where the laws are selectively enforced perceived as tool of the ruling minority elite faction to perpetuate themselves in power and the institutions bastardized to unrecognizable level, people ought not just be ashamed of it but respond with righteous indignation and outrage.

Busina's Statement on Ninoy Aquino's 25th Death Anniversary

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

EDSA TRES YO!

the trouble with columnists is that they always want to be first. billy esposo wants us to reflect on his column on february 25, 2006 when he warned everyone of civil war. actually, i had warned readers of an earlier civil war but nobody wanted to believe in 2004 that gloria stole the farmers fertilizer fund in order to steal the 2004 presidential elections. she almost conked out in 2005 and how easy it is for the filipino to forget that we are playing with fire here.

(by the way, contrary to the ibon report that that scam was P728 million, truth to tell it was P3 billion. in fact before the P728 came out, the first fertilizer scam was already exposed involving P432 spirited out of the National Food Authority bearing Administrator Arthur Yap's signature; the case was filed by Marlene Esperat et al on July 2004. Yes this is the same Yap who delivered the goodies but has been promoted to agriculture secretary despite the prima facie evidence against him in that case. Yap is never an agriculturist, he is lawyer and a damn good Labrador for the First Gentleman and his former instructor at the Ateneo pre law - Professor Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Yap is married to the erstwhile Uniwide Superstores that preceded Pure Gold in the smuggling of Chinese chicken into the country. That Esperat case is still live in the Ombudsman. But since Simeon Marcelo resigned and Merceditas Gutierrez, another FG protege, took over, no progress has been reported. For the meantime, Esperat has been the victim of extra-judicial killing, with agriculture finance officials, who used to report to JocJoc Bolante who directly reported to the presidential bedroom, now being tagged as masterminds. The Cebu court has already issued the corresponding warrants of arrest.)

of course, to prevent a civil war was also in the mind of ninoy aquino when he came home from exile, only to be butchered by presidential wannabes who conspired with the generals. that civil war was snuffed by Edsa One.

the first thought of civil war came to me when fidel ramos was clueless about the massive brownouts that met him after he swore to office in 1992. i remember mon pedrosa and i telling cory and eddie then that we were all sitting on top of social volcano that was due to erupt. well it simmered a bit when steady eddie momentarily solved the problem, but the currency crisis of 1996 and then the erap's incompetence and corruption took center stage and again there was talk of civil war resurrected but Edsa Dos snuffed it one more time.

but instead of taking the country to posterity as promised by her doctorate credentials and private-school education under the nuns and the jesuits, gloria brought us all to a lower hell with social indignation that is fast escalating into a civil war. there is no repentance here, not even admission of guilt. there is only cover-up and stonewalling.

why? because gloria has already assessed her options and that is hell or high water, she will remained glued to power, thus the monicker "ate glue" by some pundits. the only way she will leave malacanang is horizontally. she has no choice. she has already prostituted herself and the presidency, earning the notoriety of being the most corrupt president the republic has ever had. she will not leave before 2010 or even after because she cannot do an Erap before the Sandiganbayan, she does not want the embarrassment of being the first graduandus from Assumption Convent to be accused of plunder. her pride is so high, she will not listen to any reason or unreason to leave power.

gloria's sin of covetousness or greed can no longer be mitigated. it is now public knowledge that she has violated the seventh and tenth comandment of God. ask anyone in the streets. linda olaguer-montayre says in her book "A Nation Unborn" that she also sinned against the sixth and ninth comandment. by her lips she admitted having "plenty" of sex. and it looks like the nuns have bought linda's story because the madres have become the strongest biggest supporters of rodolfo lozada.

the only way gloria will lose the support of the generals she has paid is when the military finally understands that the very security of the nation is already being sacrificed so that she can continue to reign. i do not think the police is with her. kung tuta si sonny razon edi patay na si lozada. the good general's comment affirming to abolish EO464 says it all. i smell Edsa Tres, but there are some minor hitches.

forget the CBCP, those guys wear skirts. they have been programmed by Catechism not to meddle in political affairs that the book says is the province of the laity. for heavens' sakes, you better believe it - cardinal sin is dead! asking for his redux already borders on deus ex machina that seems to be not forthcoming this time. the lord is sick and tired of warning us. he wants us to do it ourselves this time.

but i am neither worried about the phyrrhic show of solidarity of Lakas and Kampi purportedly to be a collossus of sorts. my foot that is where LDP was when monching mitra lost. that was where Lakas-NUCD was when Joe de Venecia lost. there are no legitimate political parties in our system, just butterflies attracted by the nectar in the form of money and pork. this is why i have time and again asked some of our legislators to pass a bill penalizing turncoatism, but did they even take any proposal to any committee? all we see in joker, dick and johnny is endless lawyering that suits gloria's position to a T.

for her, she cannot make any mistakes. "fertilizer scam, not me - its bolante. cheating the 2004 elections, not me - it's garci, esperon and mendoza. ZTE-NBN, not me - its chairman abalos. spratly treason, not me in fact it was joe de venecia. half the population going hungry, not me - it's the oil crisis. high electric bills, not me - its the lopezes. most corrupt, not me - its FG; i am merely a victim of marital association. extrajudicial killings, not me - its palparan. i believe in the rule of law, that is why i always tell secretary gonzales to make sure the law is enforced. i have also told my national security adviser to stop killing those dissidents. i believe in telling and upholding the truth, that is why i always tell secretaries ermita, saludo and golez to follow closely their talking points and not deviate from the prompter. but P40 to $1, that me - its never the OFWs."

the endless cover-up and stonewalling by malacanang and the resounding halleluyahs of congress is driving our country to civil war.

when what happened to nicaragua happens to the philippines, i hope the romulos and those illustrious residents of makati and alabang's exclusive villages will no longer wonder why they have been driven away from their homes by peasants and workers. so instead of investing on further perpetuating an arroyo regime, they should be the first ones to move her out lest the horsemen of the apocalyse pass over their palacial dwellings.

i do not want to be a balikbayan the day after, that is after the social volcano erupts. the only thing that can avert a civil war is to remove arroyo. not later, but sooner. and you can lump noli de castro with her too. this way the people will have a chance to elect their successors via the only constitutional recourse available for a snap election. Edsa Tres, yo!

Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm Gaining Ground

The poll we conducted on whether our visitors wanted Gloria M. Arroyo to resign garnered 166 votes or 87% as against a measly 11% or puny 21 votes with 1% or 2 votes not sure while not exactly indicative of the people’s sentiments I should say that it was fairly close. The reason being is that most of our visitors or roughly 80% of our visitors come from search engines and there is no way to determine whether those who participated had biases or prejudices on the subject. Incidentally the poll was mentioned in an Inquirer article Bloggers mount ‘EDSA revolution’ online by Ephraim Aguilar also posted by Anna of Manila Baywatch regarding the Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm started by Jen of Etcetera etcetera.

There is one particular item that caught my attention about the article on Gremil Alessandro Naz, a communication professor from Bicol University currently taking graduate studies in New York University, saying that the Internet, as a medium for advocacy in the Philippines, had yet to gain enough momentum in the country. While the Internet at this point does not have the warm bodies comparable to EDSA street protest, it creates an impact on a different level replacing and definitely an improvement of the zerox days of the past anti-Marcos conjugal dictatorship struggle.

Grab this image, attribution appreciated

The internet in the Philippines is definitely not on a grassroots level at this point in time owing to the marginalization of the people due to the corrupt maladministration of the crooked corrupt trapos so pronounced in the Arroyo administration. While it is pathetically an “elitist” activity in the Philippines, Filipinos outside of the country the emerging new middle class scattered the world over are out there making their presence felt in cyberspace.

Grab this image, attribution appreciated

Case in point is the Absentee Voting advocacy that gained momentum and the eventual passing of the law when netizens utilizing the internet was able to launch a collective effort in cyberspace. A feat that seems impossible and daunting at the onset started by a ragtag group of posters at Philippine Update Forum. A group of posters disagreeing on almost anything under the sun was able to forge a united front, found commonality and UNITY of purpose in demanding to have a voice in the electoral process in the Philippines. It was through the internet that Absentee Voting Advocates was able to bridge the barrier of geographical distance and a coordinated organized group was formed that successfully lobbied the lawmakers to finally pass the Absentee Voting Law. While the law that was passed is not perfect and the trapos was able to impose their perverted will with the shameless insertion of the residency requirement it has proven one thing that a determined group of netizens can make a difference.

Clearly it shows that when a determined group of people set their minds in achieving a goal motivated by the cause working as a team devoid of the usual deluded ego laden leadership seen in typical personality driven politics of the trapos, the advocacy has a better chance of succeeding. Until people starts to put more importance on the ideals and principle of why a movement is formed and not get fixated on "unity" will we see change for the better.

With the advent of Blogs a new venue opened up for netizens to once more bring the quest for good governance in the Philippines to a new “front” spreading the corrupt trapos thin in desperately trying to counter the fervor of netizens to regain the Filipinos dignity robbed blind by the crooked cheating errr seating president. The internet and bloggers in particular together with netizens has the opportunity to once again flex their muscle and with a very clear direction and purpose, I don’t see why we can’t prevail. It is clear that the Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm clamor is gaining ground and just like the Absentee Voting Advocacy the right ingredient is once again present in this movement………. a single purpose in pressuring Gloria Arroyo and her minions in their corrupt shameless regime in resigning as a global goal is doable. Very doable indeed and no amount of ignorant opposition against the will of the people will stop the tide of change to regain our dignity as a people.

Today is precious space in time that we borrowed from our children.

TODAY IS NOT A LEGACY FROM OUR FOREBEARS,
IT IS A PRECIOUS SPACE IN TIME THAT WE BORROWED

FROM OUR CHILDREN.

In an article that came out last February 23, 2008 in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, “People Power IV? No Thank You!, Ms. Solita Monsood wrote :

When the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the process is reduced to a quest for power." Novelist Michael Crichton used this quote in one of his books, borrowing it from author Alston Chase.

And after comparing People Power I, II AND III with each other, she holds that People Power III was simply a travesty and that in People Power II :

……… it wasn't we the people who removed a sitting President, it was the military "withdrawing support" from him, which did the trick.

Concluding, Ms. Monsood holds that People Power IV :

……….. will not be People Power, but a Quest for Power by some people who would otherwise not attain it in the constitutionally approved manner: through elections.

In justification for her position, Ms. Monsood writes that:

The most important argument against a People Power IV is that It can happen only with another military intervention because Ms Arroyo is not likely to go meekly, and it will result not in more freedom and a stronger democracy but in less freedom and a weaker democracy. Did we fight and win against Charter change with its prospect of parliamentary authoritarianism only to end up No, thank you with military authoritarianism?

The problem with the above position of Ms. Monsood is that in the epic story of the Filipino people in their journey towards freedom, she looks at the unveiling history as something static and beyond transformation by present circumstances.

This error decends also from the wrong assumption that the present AFP is part of the people. That might be true in paper but not in practice as we have witnessed from events, time and time again. Obviously, the AFP is an integral part of this government and is being used as an instrument to continue its control over the people for its own end and not for the greater good of the country. As an integral part of an oppressive regime, the AFP could not liberate us from this situation because it is an essential part of the problem that created that situation in the first place. To be a liberating agent for the people under this regime, AFP must not only renounce its role for and under this administration, it must also reject the present administration and reclaim its true nature as defender of the rights of the people. But it would not because its existence depends on the inordinate largess it receives from this administration. Neither could it change with the help of this regime because helping the AFP to become the defender of the people once again is simply against the natural grain of a tyranical regime. As AFP could not change by itself or even with the help of the regime, its only recourse for redemption is from the people and with the people. Here lies the challenge to the Filipino people and here lies also the rationale why we, the people, must seize the day and continue our fight against the inequities of this administration until we get rid of it.

Any erroneous position that dampens the spirit of People Power , reinforces equally the present administration’s intent to perpetuate itself and avoid facing its accountability when it created the very conditions that imperatively call the people to exercise their sovereign authority as the true source of power under our system. The current administration, expectedly unrepentant and despite its avowals to the contrary, has no intention to set us free from the political, social and economic misery it created for us. Human history shows that despotism never delivers freedom to their victims in a silver platter unless it is on the tip of a sharp blade. On the contrary, it is the victims themselves, who, by the power borne by their own degradation and suffering, wrest liberty from the clutches of the tyrant and set themselves free!

Indeed, it is true, that only the Filipino people themselves , who could set themselves free from the debilitating position this regime has created for them. All that we, the Filipino people, have to do is to have that courage to be free and not to be afraid to take the risks needed to be freemen. To do what is right is better anytime, whenever a wrong stands before us. To wait until the AFP has cast its lot with the people or to wait until 2010 for the election, when GMA steps down, before the people exercise their God given right as the real power in the realm is to admit that we have not transformed ourselves from our previous mistakes and lapses. This is no different from parlaying our tomorrow for the enticing power of hope or the vagaries of fortune WHAT THE FILIPINO PEOPLE COULD RIGHTLY DO TODAY.

And speaking of possibilities in our search for truth , it is best to remind ourselves that ” TODAY IS NOT OUR LEGACY FROM OUR FOREBEARS, IT IS A PRECIOUS SPACE IN TIME THAT WE BORROWED FROM OUR CHILDREN. "

EDSA People Power & Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm

The 22nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power “revolution” is a time once more to remember the courage and determination of the Filipino people risking lives and limbs against the onslaught of the military monsters of the Marcos conjugal dictatorship. In lieu of this event and the shameless impunity of corruption and arrogant administration of Gloria M. Arroyo the commemoration of EDSA People Power & Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm is the most logical approach for a blogger who belives in holding elected officials accountable and responsible for their misdeeds. Grab this image Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm, but don't forget to attribute POGB

The assassination of Benigno Aquino gave rise to a spontaneous movement before which countless sacrifice of patriots costing numerous lives loss especially of the youths who would have been great leaders of today. The tyranny of one man has ended, unfortunately we are now faced not just with one corrupt strongman, but a mutation of little tyrants imposing their will on the people bringing us further down the muck of desperation and desolation.

Today 22 years later it seems we have not gone anywhere but retrogressed further in an administration with questionable tenure ironically finding herself in the highest seat of the land through a similar “people power” that turns out to be nothing more than a power grab to replace the corrupt Estrada regime with an equally if not more corrupt administration.

How can we allow this transgression is beyond belief considering this woman is the daughter of a former president who you would think will not taint her father’s refutation and honor? While there is an increasing demand from different sectors for accountability and imploring the government people not to impede our quest for truth there are still stragglers seeing a different reality? Is it because they are suffering from Stockholm syndrome or paid hacks?

The question of accountability and responsibility which is expected in a person of elective position amazingly has people wanting her to remain in office due to their fear of another crook taking over is just insane. Let us not dwell on the moronic outlook and instead look ahead which is definitely not a La Gloria “move on” crap.

We definitely need to commemorate EDSA People Power and Erwin Rafael of Ako si Paeng suggested an apt acronym for the Gloria RESIGN! Blogswarm. POGB is sharing the image below (right click & click save as, attribution appreciated) to bloggers joining the move to rid the nation of corrupt shameless politicians.

Grab the image EDSA Wave 1.0Marvin Bionat of Philippine Update has come up with a novel approach to those that cannot make it physically to the mass actions to light a virtual candle. I believe this will be a hit especially to Overseas Filipinos who wants to express their sentiments on the following:
  • For integrity in government
  • For the pursuit of the unvarnished truth behind the current political scandals
  • For the prosecution of corrupt public officials
  • For the immediate resignation of political leaders who have lost the moral authority to govern
  • For the estabishment of a government that truly represents the interests of the nation
  • For the political and economic empowerment of the Filipino people

EDSA 2 Remembered

Kasama ako sa EDSA2!I just got an invitation from Mong Palatino of mongster's nest on a memorable or dishonorable event this weekened of January 19-20th, 2008 depending on how you feel about it.

Indeed, no one can deny that event such as this needed to be revisited otherwise we will never learn and as the saying goes your past determines who you are.

A noteworthy event that has Mike Arroyo bragging about the coup plot they hatched and one of the first order of business for the new president was the exciting meeting with Lucio Tan among the first "esteemed" guest to grace the palace ….. we know what happened next, splashed in the newspaper Tan’s woes was gone like a stroke of a magic wand.

Then it was followed up by news of Kumpadre Bong Pineda conducting a meeting of all places in a national police headquarters in one of the regions….. as events unfolded the proclamation of Jueteng (illegal numbers game turning “simple” folks to instant millionaire making lotto winners look like paupers’ in comparison) Capital of the Philippines found its way and a niche in Pampanga.

We have seen some very “notable” project undertaken by the Edsa 2 beneficiary, one of which is a tribute to his father the late President Diosdado macapagal naming a highway in his honor that has earned the monicker of D. Macapagal Highway Robbery.

No one complained after all we are still giddy in celebrating a “victory” ousting the Asiong Salongat presidency of Estrada and hailing self confessed Jueteng bagman Chavit Singson a HERO………. So how dare anyone even take notice of that, we are busy dancing in the street with the Society of Seven’s rendition of Glady’s Knight and the Pips “dancing in the Street” without of course Glady’s but someone sounding like her. Oh wait, I don’t think they have Lani Misalucha yet but hey I am having a ball with this event so join in on the fun.

If there is anything that I would like to reminisce about this is the resilience and spirit of the people unfortunately used and abused as an unwitting pawn in a power grab what we now see unravelling in our very eyes is the reincarnation of Marcosa the little version..... nah I did not say there is a physical resemblance but the pattern points in that direction.

Is this a moment to be proud as a Filipino or a moment of shame to be buried in the thrash bin of Philippine pathetic political development? Ok, I should stop here lest people get upset but please mark your calendar and drop by the event as I can’t get off the heap of manmade garbage called Mt. Payatas a colossal monument akin to Mt. Rushmore symbolizing the neglect and abuse heaped on our nation by fooliticians wallowing in mismanagement and corruption.
You can also blog about this and use the image above and they may even feature your blog entry..... so go ahead and check it out.
