EDSA, a Lost Cause?

BARE THE LIST - SUBMISSION SITE FOR BOGUS PARTY LIST NOMINEES (lets do our part be vigilant and if you know any of those bogus candidates submit their names at Akbayan's site)

I checked on Martin Bautista's blog to read his latest entry titled Cry for what we lost a you tube on EDSA which he linked in his site. 21 years have passed after that event of pride and glory proclaimed as one of our biggest contribution to world peace and democracy our nation has gone nowhere and slid farther down the muck of poverty and desperation.

What happened? How did it happen? How can we allow this to happen? Ahhhhh desperation truly sets in but some say we are our own enemy thus we retrogressed instead of progressed. Are we really our own enemy? Are we supposed to pin the blame on "us" the very people suffering and victimized by crooks in politicians clothing?

Fraud is everywhere, opportunist scammers passing themselves off as Party List and fixers for a fee for a backdoor pass to tongress so they can partake of the loot. Yes the loot better known as:

P65 Million in Pork Barrel

P35K a Month Salary

P200K a Month Published Expenses

P50K – 100K a Month Allowance from the Speaker

P100K – 150K Christmas Gift from the Speaker

P100K – 150K Occasional Gift from Malacanang (Christmas)

People risk life and limbs for these to oust a dictator, so tongress people can fleece the national coffers dry? We have not even touch the Senate, the Presidential Office and those in different elected position 17K in all.

Handog Ng Pilipino Sa Mundo a fitting tribute to those who sacrificed and risked everything to regain our freedom from the conjugal dictatorship. Indeed a people’s triumph over tyranny, unfortunately taken hostage by our “leaders” insatiable greed and lust for power. We don’t deserve this and those who sacrificed their lives only to be treated by ingrates that shamelessly brought us to this pathetic stage. What have we got to show for it? We now have 10 percent of the population driven out of the country for lack of livelihood opportunity.

An accomplishment they say as administration after administration parrots their hollow accomplishment of whose administration can send out the most human exports. A multitude of modern day heroes they say or is it slaves to fleece them dry of their dollar earnings. A nation mired in poverty and uncontrollable corruption so prevalent it has seeped into our culture and collective mindset, one can only wonder if this nation is worth dying for? Sad indeed……….

If EDSA is a lost cause and the cause of EDSA is more than the dismantling of the conjugal dictatorship but also to bring back the lost self-respect and integrity of the Filipino People and EDSA is a lost cause, what cause then is there for us that are worth fighting for?

EDSA is not a lost cause. It is just not appropriate now because its fruits did not flower for many reasons. It is simply not right to look for any harvest from EDSA because we did not nurture its growth once we have it in our hands. It was wrong for many of us who cast their faith in EDSA to expect that its miracle would flower on its own without everyone sharing in its growth.

It is a fool's dream to believe that EDSA will repeat itself NOW. And it is more of a folly on our part to dream that we could find among ourselves a man or woman who could answer all the problems besetting the country.

For me, what we need NOW is not a leader who could give us all the right answers to our national problems but one who loves the country and our people beyond himself and who has the character and integrity to inspire us to dream and move once more as a people of one nation for a better tomorrow that starts today.

If we stop for a while fighting for those things that we live for and start thinking and working about those things we believe are worth dying for, then KAPATIRAN could indeed be a sound alternative in our odyssey for a Free Philippines, a Philippines that embodies all our dreams and hope. .

Truly refreshing comment Fidel, we just can't throw up the towel and forever whine and complain.

Indeed we need to see the same condition and events to come up with logical response to our nagging problem.

More power and hope to see more dynamic comments from you.

Yes, Paredes is indeed a breed apart from the Trapos in our 07' Election. He has the character and integrity which other candidates could not claim with consistency and that is his best asset. This is true with the other candidates of Kapatiran.

I am not so sure however if they will win in this election. Not because I do not believe in the sincerity of their quest and the passion of their efforts to win as well as that of the people behind them. It is just that I feel that our people are still neck deep in their quest to do what is good, better or best for themselves and their family when what is before us since the day we successfully launch EDSA 1 was really the issue of what is right or wrong for everyone. The effects of the moral bankruptcy of this administration and the kind of toxic politics that is being played in our midst have not yet created that critical mass of people, ravaged by both physical and spiritual poverty, who have the courage to refuse a piece of bread for their freedom as a human being and self-respect as a person. Di bale ALIPIN basta busog ang nasa bahay, ika nga ng marami diyan.

Of course, unless Paredes et.al. could inspire our people to free themselves from their own slavery, the satraps of our current system will still lord it over during the election and the socio-political and economic panorama of the country thereafter. If they believe otherwise, they are more than optimists because they are no different from their opponents. The latter is outright dishonest while they are mentally prevaricating.

But the acceptance of defeat should not be a reason for them to desist from going any further with the challenge before them. Sometimes, one has to lose in order to win. And as experience has taught us, it takes a miracle of an effort and time to dismantle the PEACEFUL AND RIGHT WAY a deeply entrenched and rotten system of doing things or as a way of life. The same experience also taught us that persistence to do what is right never loses a fight, though its victory is all too seldom achieved overnight.

It thus in their greatness to continue to stand on the plate, even as the stormy cloud of defeat hovers above, to speak for those who could not among us and to hold the torch of light for our people to see their way clear through during this darkened moments of our national existence.

Yes, that road is long and tortuous but the first step has been taken and for that the road is not that long any more because it is now one step shorter. If they commit on this, I, together with my family, will join them because they are now worth fighting for. And by the grace of that ever merciful God, I know we will reach the end of that road, with them on the lead, and all of us would be able to say with pride, “ Thanks God, IT IS NOT IN OUR DESTINY TO BE THE REGRETS OF THOSE WHO WILL COME AFTER US.”
