Arroyo Virtually Signed Fr. Lucero's Death Warrant

Karapatan a human rights group accuses Gloria Arroyo of responsibility in what appeared to be a state sanctioned political killing. An irresponsible statement coming from the head of state surely shows why peace is not possible when you have a president and a bogus one at that demonizing people by labeling them as communist.

While we are seeing progress and the advent of the internet where information are just a click away we expect to see a more informed populace in the process raising their intelligence level. It is amazing that there are still areas in the Philippines where morons have not heard or have a clue what tolerance is all about and would rather silence people whose views do not conform with their own pea sized brain with extreme barbaric violence. What is more revolting is when a president utters pea brain irresponsible statement taken by equally pea brained fanatical followers to kill what displeases their leader. Below is the statement of Karapatan:

Arroyo Virtually Signed Fr. Lucero's Death Warrant

On June 16, 2009, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo addressed Fr. Lucero as “that communist priest!” in front of Gen. Arthur Tabaquero and other civilians during the inauguration of the Catubig bridge. On September 6, 2009, state security forces wearing ski masks and military uniform assassinated Fr. Cecilo Lucero in San Jose, Northern Samar.

Fr. Lucero, a staunch human rights advocate and the chairman of human rights committee of the Catarman Diocese in Northern Samar, serves as the parish priest in Catubig town. Just as the peace and human rights advocates here in Central Visayas, Fr. Lucero has long been subjected to military surveillance and harassments.

The spate of extrajudicial killings perpetrated by the Arroyo government is part of the counter-insurgency campaign Oplan Bantay Laya that victimizes unarmed activists. As United Nation special rapporteur Philip Alston sharply pointed out, AFP is behind these killings. Alston further exposed that prior to the said killings, the victims are first subjected to massive vilification campaigns such as dubbing them as communists and communist fronts.

KARAPATAN-Central Visayas vehemently condemns the recent killing of a fellow human rights defender. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Fr. Lucero and vow to pursue justice to all victims of state terrorism.

I can only ask why Arroyo issued such irresponsible statement knowing the fatal consequence of such ignorant labeling meant almost virtually signing of Fr. Lucero’s death warrant. While we cannot categorically say for a fact that Gloria Arroyo's remark caused Fr. Lucero's murder we also cannot deny the fact that there are unthinking criminals out there especially in Samar where their brains fell off their trigger finger. Does she even have a conscience? This is beyond revolting. This is a ruthless criminal mindset that only shows the kind of monstrosity of a person shamelessly touting herself as the mother of the nation. I am tempted to swear and use the P word (SoB) but I have more decency than this murderous woman and I can only hope that there will come a time when she is held criminally liable for the horrendous murder of Fr. Lucero……….
