AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
July 29, 2009
HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
Washington District of Columbia
United States of America
Dear Mr. President,
We shared the wonderful jubilation of the American people during your historic election triumph. When you assumed office early this year, we rejoiced at the audacious hope that you inspired, and on your promise of change for the common good.
We joined all freedom loving people of the world who exulted when you declared that “those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent… are on the wrong side of history.”
The Filipino people share the same morals, ideals, and aspirations that define the envied way of life of the American people. Filipinos yearn for the same kind of leaders that the American people yearn for themselves; leaders who are imbued with the right values, lead principled lives, and govern with the highest ethical standards. The ideals of justice, democracy and the upliftment of human rights animate the Filipino people’s dreams of a better world in much the same way that these ideals animate the dreams of the American people.
Upon your invitation, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will have the chance to meet with you on July 30, 2009. In your meeting with Ms. Arroyo, it may serve you well to be mindful of Ms. Arroyo’s legacy of corruption, extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, bribery, election cheating, among others. We do not wish to belabor you with the details of these high crimes which have surely been documented and reported by the U.S. State Department to your Office.
The Filipino people also yearn for change from the effrontery of hopelessness and the curse of decadence that Ms. Arroyo represents. In your meeting with Ms. Arroyo, we feel confident that you will make clear to her that a Government that does not comply with Principles of Democracy and respect for Human Rights cannot have the approval and support of your administration. We implore you Mr. President to inspire hope and be an instrument of change for the common good of the long suffering Filipino people.

pathetic naman yung mga nag sign ng letter na yan, when they themselves are in power wala din silang nagagawa for the philippines and for the filipino people, you continue to accuse arroyo of corruption, judicial killings etc. when you don't have concrete evidence of such, kasi kung mayroon man, matagal ng napaalis si arroyo sa presidency, stop blabbering ,filipinos want actions, isa pa you've once have the power to chance the philippines and what did you do? mayroon ba? kasi naghihirap pa rin tayo. kulang lang kasi sa atin pagkakaisa... puro oppose oppose kaya walang patutunguhan ang pilipinas. pareparehas lang naman kayo ng baho eh! walang matinong politiko dito sa Pinas sa ngayon.
@Anonymous, The last time I checked the Philippines is still a democracy and people has the right to dissent.
There are concrete evidence against the Arroyo administration, the problem is that the police and the judiciary are not doing a good job. They are a confused lot thinking their job is to act as private bodyguards and defense counsel for the Arroyos.
@political jaywalker
it is sad to say that those people who signed the letter have powers equal to the president, one of them is an ex vp and a senate president, arroyo might have the power but they have the people so if they have these hard evidences why not let it out, if they are really for the people and for the philippines.. these is just a grand standing. isa pa why do we have to pull legs of our fellow kayumanggi and put her to shame? remember she represents the philippines. if we have issues let it be settled here, if indeed true of the allegations she is responsible to us not to them(obama). let her do her work and also ours. yung mga nagsign ng letter is katulad sila ng abusayaff sa mindanao tinitira kapwa filipino. mahirap na nga ang buhay pinapahirap pa nila ang philippines. nakakasawa na! bangon filipinos at wag magpagamit. kay arroyo man or sa oposisyon. nyahahahahahahaha!
Hoy Anusnymous, hindi ka ba nahihiya sa pinagsasasabi mo? Where in the world of crazed bulilit did you get the false notion that the signers have the same powers as the president?
@ banas
wat i mean is, if gloria can hold down those people aforementioned, those that have signed can also draw the same power through the people, if they only have hard evidences then perhaps noli de castro is now our president, remember that no one can hold the power of the filipinos else stop distabilizing Philippines lalo lang tayong nalulugmok dahil dyan.
Yun ngang isa dyan eh religious leader pa... he can summoned his flocks in just a call but let's face it no hard evidence, no justice nothing... kapoot! nyahahahaha saka hoy ka rin.. peace bro!
I am sorry Anonymous but you got it all wrong. It is not up to the people who signed the open letter but congress who instead of voting based on the evidence voted to drop the impeachment in favor of Gloria Arroyo along party lines and loyalty to their boss.
