“SALUTE TO THE FILIPINO-AMERICAN ORGANIZATION”

(A Fund Raiser To Establish the Legal Defense and Education Fund)

Dear Kababayan :

On December 21, 2008 (a Sunday) from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), Region One, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate of New York, will hold a black-tie gala event to be held at the Hammerstein Grand Ballroom, The Manhattan Center, in New York City.

The gala event has a two-fold purpose, namely, (1) to salute Filipino American Associations for their meaningful and exemplary contributions to their respective communities/constituencies and, (2) to request the community to help fund the first-ever Legal Defense and Education Fund for the benefit of our unfortunate kababayans as well as FILVOTE whose aim is to register every eligible Filipino American to vote in all elections at both the national and local level so that “Together We Will Be Heard”.

The affair is also intended to serve as an invitation to interested FILAM organizations to participate, on a voluntary basis , in the launching of “Project Self-Reliance in Community Building”, a joint project between NaFFAA Region One and ACESFOUR/SMART-PLDT to help community organizations achieve financial self-reliance. Under the “Self-Reliance in Community Building ” joint project, NaFFAA Region One, has been designated by ACESFOUR/SMART-PLDT as the official retail outlet for all Filipino American community organizations of any and all SMART telecom wireless products and services (e.g. call & text cards) at steeply discounted prices for distribution to its member organizations. In turn, NaFFAA Region One will likewise make available the benefits of the discounts/savings generated to participating Filipino American organizations and their individual members.

The Gala event, therefore, in addition to celebrating the achievements of FILAM organizations will also serve to demonstrate that all organizations can come together to work for a common cause. It is for this reason that NaFFAA Region One and the Philippine Consulate of New York have agreed to cooperate in the sponsorship of this gala event.
