Cheap Justice Renato Corona Impeachment Circus Drama

I did not know that blabbermouths like Tita Midas Marquez who is holding a spokesman and at the same time a court administrator position had so much rabble rousing power. Court administrator as in glorified secretary? Now what and who gives him the authority if reports are true that he is giving the judges a marching order to take a court holiday to support and listen to the impeached cheap justice Corona’s speech. Your guess is as good as mine but if you don’t want to guess the palace says it was coming from cheap errr thief, ooops Chief Justice Corona. Of course Tita Mids will deny that he instigated the illegal act but no matter how he denies it, if it walks and quacks like a duck it is a duck, as shown in this image below:

Did someone not tell this blabbermouth that it is not only illegal for them to have a strike but dumb and stupid? But then again this is the Philippines where anything goes where laws are interpreted depending on how it accommodates the one deciding on it. Is it a surprise that Tita Mids will lie? Not really because if Dean Jorge Bocobo's description below of Tita Mids is accurate then it is to be expected:

Midas Marquez is a living subversion of the ethical rule that the Supreme Court only speaks through its WRITTEN decisions.

Now how exactly will people sympathize or even rally behind men in robes when they are not exactly voiceless dispossessed poor masses?  Are they really serious into deluding themselves that they can persuade people to make them (Arroyo and Corona) as the little poster girl and boy of human rights victims, trust me that is not going to happen, they are just deluding themselves that the world revolves around them, LOL.

Never mind about propriety their cheap justice never had one to begin with and a plagiarizing associate justice having no clue what it is anyway. The justices are sadly acting like the Kyrgyz inmates on hunger strike over a prostitute ban. Just like the Philippine Trapo and their lackeys in the injustice system these inmates work the system to bring in prostitutes under the "others" category on who can visit them, LOL. Which reminds me, these inmates are also no different from a very demanding Gloria Arroyo trying to micro-manage even her custody when she has really no say. I am afraid that at the rate she complains and acts like a brat she will probably have an extended stay at the hospital, nah not the presidential suite at VMMC but at the psychiatric ward since there is no presidential suite for the locos.

It is just too bad that the impeachment charge was really done so swiftly, I am sure even the Tongress people would want it to be a little bit longer. Not because they really want to diligently go through the documents but it was clearly a sacrifice on their part not to have milked it for their shameless self-promotion, was that a sign of maturity or what? If you listen to the deluded paranoia allegations of Corona it seems like it was rushed to unseat him. Seriously, do they really need the extra time to consider the charges against Corona when most people knew that he is what Leila De Lima describes as “ A Walking Constitutional Violation,” I doubt that they would want to give the impression that they are the clueless lot, LOL.

Then you have the “rule of law” and “due process” absolutist who refused to go along with what they see as the “mob” destroying their “democratic ideals.” True, who would want a short cut and arbitrariness, but is it really? Sure the party in power could have done it better but under the present circumstance and thanks and no thanks to the Supreme Court that pave the way for the new income opportunities for jokers like the Oliver Lozano’s, dillydallying would have cost the accountability measure a year of setback. The choice is to act swiftly or arrest the Oliver Lozano’s of vagrancy, but that will be nasty although think it will be very amusing if they do that, I don’t think there will be a protest. On the other hand imagine the national indignation of those who supports the administration now in holding Arroyo and her cohorts responsible and accountable if Lozano beats them to the draw in his usual weak impeachment charge where not a single representative will be willing to endorse?

Joseph Estrada’s advice to Corona if he slug it out on being embarrassed is really odd, really just embarrassed? Should it not be humiliated, or that is not in their vocabulary? Embarrassed is just like a con artist getting caught lying trough his teeth and treating it lightly and not apologetically but will no doubt scam mercilessly you had you not known any better. 

Leila De Lima did a good job refuting the spit errr speech of CJ Corona, but just like opposition Rep. Edcel Lagman his choice of word "blackmail" seems to dig his hole much deeper. Steve Salonga puts it so aptly below:

Listening to the replay of CJ Corona's speech, I am amused by his choice of the word "blackmail" to explain the charges. I thought "blackmail" had to do with someone guilty of a crime who is being extorted to keep his crime in the dark. If he is being blackmailed then he is guilty of a something? And what is being extorted from him if he is already being impeached?

Corona is truly showing his true color as he speaks incoherently. Resorting to name calling like a brat just like his disgraced master Gloria Arroyo saying that Pres. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino's action against him shows he is a dictator. Unfortunately for him the Philippine Bar Association validates the constitutionality of the impeachment. Justices are appointed to the Supreme Court because they possess wisdom, so does that he is short or not have any?

What I don't understand is the negative reaction of some people as if this is the end of our much cherished "democratic institution" when honestly, what have we got to lose if Arroyo and Corona are convicted? I believe we will lose tremendously and it will be a huge setback for our nation in fighting corruption if only Arroyo and Corona are convicted. Besides if it was just the two of them then they can legitimately say they are being singled out just like Erap's complaint when Arroyo even hailed the Jueteng bagman into a hero and presidential consultant. 

I don't think we as a people to be just a habitual complainer finding fault at anything and everything we see. Or do we really love corruption so much that we can't let go and will fight tooth and nail going on a hair pulling match with a bald person? Seriously, is it not better to help the administration now in their drive to curb corruption to strengthen their resolve or do we want to support of all people the ones who epitomize corruption? Either that or we really love to be stuck in the muck because we did not have the resolve to get out of it as the above image implies......

Corona: A walking constitutional violation

Corona: A walking constitutional violation

[Released on December 15, 2011]

Yesterday, Corona called the President a dictator. He says that holding the Chief Justice accountable to the people through impeachment shows that the President is a dictator.

Every human being is accountable for his actions. The Constitution sets higher standards of accountability for public officials, more for judges, the highest reserved for Justices of the Supreme Court. In the case of the Chief Justice, accountability comes in only one form, by impeachment. As Chief Justice, there is no other manner by which Corona can be held accountable. But Corona says that for the President to hold him accountable in accordance with the Constitution is dictatorial, as Aquino wants control of the Supreme Court. According to Corona, his impeachment is an assault on the judiciary, the Supreme Court, the Constitution, and democracy itself. According to Corona, he cannot be held accountable without attacking the Constitution and democracy. This, according to Corona, is his very own apotheosis, for only human beings can be held accountable.

But the Filipino people know better. Judicial independence does not mean independence and exemption from justice and accountability. The highest form of accountability is demanded from no less than the highest magistrate of the land, whose title under our Constitution is deliberately termed Chief Justice, not Lord Justice, lest the title is misrepresented by its holder. This is what the President is demanding from Corona, not subservience, which Corona has already pledged to Arroyo, and certainly not capitulation. All that the President demands, what the people demand, is that Corona be held accountable. Corona, contrary to his protestations, is not exempt from the most basic human precept of accountability.

Yesterday, Corona claimed the whole judiciary for his personal retinue, ordering judges and court personnel to stop working for a day. Through the Court Administrator, he ordered that the judges and courts should not hold hearing for a day, and that everyone who went to the courts for justice yesterday should go home, because justice, that day, took a leave of absence. Yesterday, justice stopped because the Chief Justice wanted to say something to the judiciary he deemed more important than justice itself. So important were his words that the wheels of justice had to stop turning for a day.

Yesterday, the Chief Justice called the President a dictator. The title could very well apply to him. There can be no more apt description of a tyrant than someone who holds himself above justice and accountability. Clearly, the framers of the Constitution were thinking of Renato C. Corona when they did not put the Chief Justice in the line of succession to the Presidency.

The Supreme Court and the judiciary do not belong to Corona. Corona is not the judiciary. Corona may belong to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Some members of the Supreme Court may belong to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. But the Supreme Court, the institution, the Supreme Court of the people, can never belong to Corona or to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The Supreme Court belongs to the people. And when the Arroyo justices start thinking that in protecting Arroyo, they are shorn of any accountability, not even by impeachment, then it is time the people, through their representatives in Congress, impeach them. It is time the President and Congress reclaim the Court for the people.

Yesterday, Corona said that President Aquino wants him impeached because he wants to appoint a Chief Justice he could hold by the neck. Corona said that the President’s quarrel with his midnight appointment is that the President was denied the opportunity to appoint a Chief Justice he could hold by the neck. What he did not say is that by being appointed Chief Justice by Arroyo despite the constitutional prohibition on midnight appointments, it was his own neck that was held by Arroyo. More than President Aquino appointing a Chief Justice he holds by the neck, which he never got to do, it is Arroyo who appointed the Chief Justice, Corona, so that she can hold him by the neck long after her term was over.

For this is the very essence of a midnight appointment, to hold the midnight appointee by the neck, the outgoing President making a tail-end appointment to assure her power in government long after her term is over, consequently depriving the President-elect his rightful appointing authority. The Constitution states that two months before a presidential election and up to the end of her term, then President Arroyo cannot make any kind of appointment. After depriving the eventual President of his constitutional authority to appoint the next Chief Justice, Corona claims that better a Chief Justice held by the neck by Arroyo, than a Chief Justice held by the neck by the rightful and constitutional appointing authority, the incoming President Aquino. At least he was clear about who was holding who by the neck.

With his impeachment by Congress, the Chief Justice now, like his patron Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is nothing more than an accused. As Arroyo was the beneficiary of “Hello Garci,” Corona was the beneficiary of a constitutional violation. From the moment of his appointment, Chief Justice Corona was a walking constitutional violation. His appointment was the “Hello Garci” of the judicial department.

A midnight appointee held by the neck by Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo, Corona should be as he was rightly impeached for the simple reason that, like Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, he is nothing more than a usurper to a public office. Corona, in his own twisted view of reality, may call the President a dictator, but he can never question Aquino’s mandate as the duly elected President of the people. Unlike the President, all that Corona can show for himself is his illegal and unconstitutional appointment as a usurper to the Office of the Chief Justice by the other usurper Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. And as history shows, usurpers make the worst tyrants, because of their false sense of entitlement to something that was never theirs from the start.

Corona Impeached! An impending constitutional or Constipational Crisis?

Funny but as soon as Cheap errrr Chief Justice Renato Corona took a tough fighting stance the next day 188 solons signed his impeachment, I wonder if he regrets it now, LOL. But then again for someone so dense and hiding under the pretense of rule of law and due process coupled with a deluded mindset thinking and acting as if they are the institution, you would expect that kind of reaction.

Summary of the Corona Impeachment Complaint

I must admit that our “honorable” congress people are quite impressive at the haste errrr I meant the stunning swiftness of getting 188 signatories to the impeachment when the minimum requirement is just 95. Is this redemption? Nah, not for Corona the guy is hopelessly dense, I meant for Tongress to really work to reform the justice system that is without reforming themselves too?

I am particularly amused at the dramatic approach of house minority leader Edcel Lagman, after all this has the potential of being the number one teleBOLA, wait that’s wrong hehehe I meant telenovela of all, referring to the impeachment as the “Mother of all Blackmail,” to quote:

The Supreme Court justices are being blackmailed not to decide pending cases against the Aquino administration, otherwise the wrath of impeachment will be on them.

The derogation of our democratic institutions is almost complete with the emasculation of the House of Representatives, the violation of civil liberties, the impairment of the rule of law and now the destruction of the Supreme Court and the judiciary.

Really Edcel, are you just like the rest of the fishwives or do you belong to their congregation at the corner sari sari store and barber shops discussing hot gossip of the day? Looking at how Edcel Lagman and the rest of the Arroyo paid parrots reduce this issue to speculation and jumping to conclusion based on nothing but their speculative mind surely explains why some Filipinos can’t liberate themselves from that tribal mindset. Don’t they ever learn thinking they can hoodwink or insult the people’s intelligence passing Gloria Arroyo and Renato Corona as the poster boy and little girl of human rights is just insanely unbelievable but pathetically laughable. But then again this is the beauty of (no not a healthy democracy) of being a BOLA BOLA Republic, we get to watch reality show that is not necessarily unscripted but entertaining nevertheless where we can laugh at the performers and performance, now how sweet is that?

Then we have the mother of all hyperbole (yikes, I think I am getting infected by the telebola histrionic like illness, LOL) when we hear some people calls this a “constitutional dictatorship,” after the constitutional crisis brought about by the “mobs” seems to be losing steam when no one seems to treat them seriously. Instead of being treated seriously they get guffaws and mocking, when they are not even stand-up comics.

At least some parrots errr people calls it constitutional dictatorship in contrast to those who swears by their balls errrr their neighbor’s dog that Pres. Benigno S. Aquino, III is worse than the real dictator the frozen stiff one Ferdinand Marcos. They seem to forget that it was the little girl who can’t sleep in a rat infested presidential suite at VMMC who actually came close to being a constitutional dictator and we are not even at war with anyone. Here is an interesting quote on constitutional dictatorship:

Professor Albert Sturm, a student of Rossiter's work, has also written of constitutional dictatorships. In a 1949 essay "Emergencies and the Presidency" in the Journal of Politics, for example, Sturm found that these "temporary concentrations of power in an executive" for meeting emergencies, which have been "employed by vigorous democracies since ancient times," are necessary for "the preservation of the established system in the face of temporary crisis." Typically, such authority lasts only as long as the crisis, Sturm notes, and it is sanctioned by the "existing constitutional system."

I can understand the desire of some to uphold the rule of law and due process, but we are talking here of the Philippine setting. A place where it is not exactly perfect and criminal suspects are not exactly law abiding but loophole seeking scalawags. Had the DoJ followed the "due process" when the institution or the SC did not exactly follow the due process is not very prudent lest one wants to be the laughing stock in allowing a suspect to escape right in front their very noses.

Concerns are raised on the replacement if Corona is impeached and some people have valid reservation but some I should say are more of the fishwives mindset. True there is no guarantee that people especially those in the patronage political system will of course use their position for their personal agenda. In the same manner that we can't just jump to conclusion lest we turn to like crabs wanting to pull down people no matter what.

The personal agenda question is better answered by the legislative and the president, are we supposed to assume that it will be more on personal agenda of having a rubber stamp cheap este chief justice? Or better yet do we really need to question their agenda or do we go by what exactly are the qualifications of a CJ? There is really no way to determine personal agenda until we see how the person performs and this is where transparency is much needed. Unfortunately in the Philippines where the "right to privacy" seems to take precedence even if there are obvious criminal activities how exactly does it help ease our questioning minds.... and it does not help that there seems to be a lot of people with a tendency to jump to conclusions based on pure speculation.

All the drama and overacting can be reduced to what Dean Jorge Bocobo says it to be:

“Hahaha and it'll ruin GMA's noche buena (like when Sauron's main general gets his head chopped off in The Return of the King)”

And I say ruined Noche Buena and more since the constitutional crisis they are trying to peddle is turning out to be more of a CONSTIPATIONAL crisis when they see the illegal legal defense team she meticulously planted within the institution with psychic accuracy from the Ombudsman to the Supreme Court are slowly crumbling right before their very eyes.

What are the chances that the impeachment will succeed and instead of a constitutional crisis  this will really turn out to be Gloria Arroyo's CONSTIPATIONAL crisis brought about by anxiety of spending her entire life in prison? I am optimistic that it will happen because most of the senators are up for re-election, I am sure they will not risk the ire of the voters siding with a lost cause. The biggest and most important question is will the representatives and senators finally redeem themselves and will this signal the start of genuine reform? Unless and until the lawmakers reform themselves how can they expect to reform the system when they need to be reformed too?
