It is ignorance exacerbated by the culture of corruption that helps criminals in exploiting their own people.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03336187436333827201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8499859064694863448.post-79576332301165687582009-10-06T16:23:55.561-07:002009-10-06T16:23:55.561-07:00The teachers are lucky that it happened in America...The teachers are lucky that it happened in America -- they are not hindered by language and can file a complaint. Also, if they are really unhappy about their situation they can leave their jobs. I understand not easy but they have a choice unlike in other countries where many Filipinos working at the bottem of the professional totem pole don't possess the education to get them through barriers.

Filipinos abusing one of their own abroad is not new. A couple of years ago in France, many Pinoy domestic helpers were abused, defrauded, swindled of their hard-earned savings by a small group of Pinoys with partners in Manila who sweet talked them into investing in a pyramid scam.

When I asked one Pinay domestic helper who invested in the scheme why she didn't lodge a complaint against the group with the French police, she said that she didn't know how because she didn't speak French and besides, she was afraid to be expelled from the country because she wasn't legal in the country.

I suggested for her to see the consul or an official in the embassy but she wouldn't do that either because she complained that embassy officials do not pay attention to maids like her.

Clearly, there was nothing one could do in the face of opposition to better her fate.

And it is people like her who become easy prey to unscrupulous, abusive, fraud-driven Filipinos abroad. These schemers take their fraud/swindle culture abroad and seek out maleable Filipinos on purpose.Annahttp://manilabaywatch.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
